The Civil Division is a state mandated service of the Sheriff’s Office. Its purpose and function is to serve and execute the various legal processes issued not only by and for the several non-criminal courts of the state and its subdivisions, but also for the legal community and the general public. Departmental and divisional policies and procedures are consistent with New York State and court case law. These policies are designed and developed to insure the accurate, expeditious, and judicious service and execution of all matters relating to civil process.

The Civil Division requires advance payment for each Service of Process. In addition, there may be fees to levy, seize, inventory, transport, store, protect preserve and dispose of property taken into custody of the aforementioned processes.

The Civil Division serves numerous papers, including but not limited to, Summons & Complaints, Notices, Warrants of Evictions, Income Executions, Property Executions, Orders and Mandates, Seizures and Subpoenas.

All work is based on the information you provide, therefore the more accurate, detailed and copious the information, the more likely we are to succeed. A post office box is not an acceptable address as we cannot serve a post office box. Any information regarding officer safety issues, the elderly or infants, animals, etc must be conveyed when the work is delivered.

It is recommended that all litigants obtain competent legal counsel when necessary. The Sheriff cannot give legal advice. The Sheriff’s Office does not supply forms, nor can we complete them. There are several suppliers or publishers of legal forms available on line or consult the telephone directory.

Our fees change periodically so be sure to download our most recent fee schedule and mileage chart here:
